We welcome William Oliver Griffin, III to Lansdowne Borough as the newest Councilmember and Chair of Community Relations. Originally from the Overbrook section of Philadelphia, Will moved to Lansdowne in 2019 where he now resides with his wife Michala and their son William Griffin IV. What drew him to Lansdowne was that the neighborhood takes pride in the community; clean parks, community events and education.
Will has been a very active member of the community since moving here three years ago. He has partnered with the LDC (Lansdowne Dems) to register voters in our community (all 11 precincts). That year, they succeeded and achieved a 7% increase in registered voters in 2022. When there was a shooting in the 9th precinct, Will and other volunteers partnered with elected officials, local police and the community. They put together an event “clean and safe” to discuss the events that happened, discuss ways a community can combat gun violence (leaving porch lights on, neighbors talking more) and took the day to clean the block.
Being a new member of the community, Will wanted to be a voice for new members and existing members of Lansdowne by becoming a Council Member. As a newly elected official, Will wants to focus on equity, inclusion and outreach to new and existing residents to fill the void. He'd also like to offer services for members in the community who may feel left out.
