January 20, 2022: Letter from Council President, Benjamin Hover

Lansdowne Logo

Dear Lansdowne residents,

Happy New Year! As we celebrate the new Year and move through Winter into the Spring, this year Lansdowne Borough will continue the growth and renaissance of Lansdowne with projects coming to fruition, businesses opening in our downtown, and new development of housing breaking ground this year!

New Council:

First of all, I want to welcome and congratulate the new members of Council and our new Mayor. This year promises to be full of great opportunities for the building of our community. Our new Councilmembers bring wonderful new perspectives to Council and as a whole are organized to address the needs of our community. We voted on January 3 for our reorganization. Please find the organizing resolutions here with the Council responsibilities for each Committee.

Learn about the new Council Members here.

Martin Luther King, Jr. Day Project

Lansdowne Borough Council extends our gratitude to Jessica Pointer for organizing a Martin Luther King Jr. Day Service Project by conducting a Hygiene Drive for students in the William Penn School District on Martin Luther King Day. The drive supported by the Lansdowne Police Department,  Lansdowne Borough, and the many residents of Lansdowne united the community. Citizen volunteers, like Jessica Pointer, create the community ties that unite us in building the Lansdowne community. On behalf of Council, thank you! Learn more here.

Gateway Slope

Progress continues on Gateway Slope as planned. The vision of a Gateway Park into Lansdowne conceived over 20 years ago by Lansdowne Borough Council with the purchase of the land on Scottdale and Baltimore will soon be open as a beautiful walkway into Lansdowne and into Hoffman Park. Thank you to Councilmember Carol Martsolf for the informative Gateway Slope Notes that have charted the progress of the Slope from the beginning. View the Gateway Slope Notes here.

To celebrate the opening of the pathway, Lansdowne Borough Council will host a dedication ceremony on April 8th at 4:00.

With the development of Gateway Slope, Lansdowne Borough Council continues our dedication to the investment in our green spaces in town.

Veteran’s Park; The Landing; Parking Lot Improvements

Lansdowne Borough Council discussed the design for the revisions to Veteran’s Park, The Landing, and the Owen Avenue, and Highland Avenue Parking Lots. The next step will be a meeting with stakeholders, the LEDC, the American Legion, Historic Lansdowne Theater Corporation, and the Lansdowne Business Professional Association.

The Plan uses The Walkshed Plan, local Architectural details, and ideas from “The Landing” pilot to develop the new plan. View the design here.

Hope to see you around town!

Sincerely,

Benjamin Hover, Lansdowne Borough Council
