September 16, 2021: Letter from Council President, Benjamin Hover

Dear Lansdowne Neighbors,

As the waning days of summer blend into the cool days of autumn, Lansdowne Borough Council wishes an easy beginning of the school year to all of the residents and hopes that as the flowers bloom and leaves change that you enjoy the autumnal bliss of the year.

In September, Borough Council was forced to call a special meeting on Tuesday, September 7th after the previous meeting for September 1st was cancelled because of the Tornado Warning and remnants of Tropical Storm Ida swept the region. Unless there is an emergency, Council does meet every First and Third Wednesday of the month and we encourage all residents to participate. Lansdowne Borough Council is open and transparent to the public and is now in person and via Zoom.

If you happen to miss a meeting or would like to know what’s happening in Lansdowne, please check the Borough website here where you can find recordings of all Council meetings.

Gateway Slope

First, I would like to address the issue of Gateway Slope. As residents, the Mayor, and the Council have all noted the work at Gateway Slope has occurred in fits and starts with little work occurring over the past few weeks. Because of the lack of progress and the assessment by our Borough Engineer that the work not be completed by the deadline, the decision was made to call in the bond on the project.

Unfortunately, PA Borough Code requires that Borough Council must pick the lowest responsible bidder on a project for Borough Projects past a certain price threshold. In this case, the contracted bid was awarded to Monster Paving. At this point, we are calling in the bond, which means the bonding agency that insures the project is responsible for finding contractors  to complete the project.

Borough Events

Borough Council would like to thank the residents who attended the Borough Remembrance for the 20th Anniversary on 9/11. Thank you to Mayor Campuzano, Vice President Byrne for their moving remarks and the Police Department and First Responders in Lansdowne who rush to emergencies to assist others. Also, thank you to Joe Foley for providing sound and music for the event.

Borough Council would like to thank the American Legion Post 65 for joining in honoring POW/ MIA Day on September 18, 2021 on Borough Greene at  12:00. On behalf of Council, I want to extend Council’s gratitude to Joe Foley for providing the sound for the event and to Francesca Merritt for her vocals.

 Junior Councilmember: Naomi Lartey

Also, Lansdowne Borough Council thanks and recognizes our Jr. Councilmember Nhaomi Lartey who was honored by the PA Borough Association through a highlight article in their  magazine. Nhaomi Lartey has done great work on Council and in her many volunteer positions through William Penn School District.

Have a great beginning of Fall!

Sincerely,

 Benjamin Hover

President, Lansdowne Borough Council
