April 22, 2021: Letter From Council President, Benjamin Hover

Dear Neighbors in Lansdowne,

First of all, I want to comment on the beautiful spring in Lansdowne at this time of year with the flowers blooming and to thank all of our neighbors as they work to build their gardens and provide habitats for songbirds and pollinators, but also the beautiful lived space for all of our neighbors; we all benefit from the beautification of Lansdowne. I feel blessed to live in a community with so many neighbors out walking in the streets enjoying the fresh air and sights of Lansdowne.

Public Health and Safety

With this said, Borough Council wants to encourage all of the drivers in and around to take heed of others on the road. Lansdowne is a pedestrian and bike friendly town and all commuters should feel safe to move around town. Please abide by traffic laws, stop signs, and also slow down in our town.

Over the next couple of weeks, PENNDOT is in the midst of major repaving projects on Baltimore Avenue and Lansdowne Avenue which may cause delays in your normal commute. Please remember that shaving a few minutes off of a commute should not result in an accident. With the completion of the paving, we will also have the first step of the facilities plan.

Currently, the Lansdowne Avenue Crosswalk project has commenced and we all look forward to the completion of this space for the safety of pedestrians in our downtown.

Economic Development

Recently, Lansdowne Borough Council learned that our community will receive funding from the American Rescue Plan and we are still learning about how to use this funding to benefit the residents of Lansdowne Borough. Lansdowne Borough Council continues to be a community that maintains great stewardship of its resources and our community should be optimistic that this plan will have a great impact on our ability to pursue the completion of many projects in Lansdowne and further the Lansdowne Renaissance.

Currently, Lansdowne Borough is experiencing a brisk real estate market as more people realize what we know to be true  about the great location of the Borough, the great amenities we offer, and the great community of neighbors we have.

On April 16th, Mayor Campuzano, Vice President Byrne, and Borough Manager Craig Totaro, and Borough Engineer Kevin Matson participated in the Groundbreaking Ceremony at Gateway Slope and the project is gearing up for the creation. Read about the Gateway Slope Project HERE.

Likewise, the LEDC is near completion of the opening of the Maker Space on Lansdowne Avenue. By continuing our investment in Borough green spaces and art places, we are continuing the Lansdowne Renaissance.

Environment, Parks, and Recreation

As many residents have noted, the blooming of Reservoir Park is underway and the transformation of the space demonstrates the value of the investment in the green infrastructure we need for our community in the 21st Century.

The McKinley Lot Playground is in the final stages of Engineering and we are moving forward with preliminary designs for the revisions of Veteran’s Park and The Landing.

a0df3b14-0da1-4c2f-a842-118b3bdb2ca3We would like to thank all of the many volunteers who attend the Darby Creek Valley Association cleanups in Lansdowne Borough at Hoffman Park, Marlyn Park, and Pennock Woods.

On April 22nd, Lansdowne Borough representatives attended the Upper Darby Zoning Hearing Board to express the concerns of Lansdowne Borough Council concerning the proposed development at the Thomson Tract.

Also, Lansdowne Borough Council passed unanimously a resolution requesting that Delaware County conduct a study about alternative methods to the Covanta incinerator in Chester for sanitation disposal. Lansdowne Borough Council is committed to the goals of developing our community as a vibrant and green community.

On April 30th, we will plant redbud and other native trees in several locations including our local schools (to be announced) in collaboration with the Arbor Day Foundation, Audubon Society, and our Shade Tree Commission. Residents who signed up for redbud trees will have them delivered either before Arbor Day or in the weeks following as the donated trees arrive.

The Lansdowne Renaissance is continuing and Lansdowne is a green place to grow in and a community that works. Be part of the progress.

                                Sincerely,

                                Benjamin Hover

                                President

                                Lansdowne Borough Council
