April 14, 2021: Letter from Mayor Campuzano

Lansdowne Logo

Dear Lansdowne Residents,

I hope this finds all of our residents and their families well as we enjoy spring weather here in Lansdowne.  As we still are dealing with the pandemic, I urge everyone who can to get vaccinated.  As you can tell by the numbers of cases still being reported this is the only way we can get back to some normalcy and be protected from the virus.  Being protected is not only good for you and your families safety but also for your neighbors and our community.  Please continue to wear a mask, practice social distancing and get vaccinated.  We will beat this.

Even though some events in town are still being affected, I am happy to announce two that we are having in the next couple of months. The first is our annual Town Wide Yard Sale.  We did not have this last year for obvious reasons but things are a little better right now. The Yard sale will be held on Saturday May 15th 8:00 am to whenever participants close.  The rain date is Sunday May 16th.  In order to be listed on the map you need to go to the borough website.  Addresses must be in by May 10th in order to be added to the map.  The maps will be available on the borough website and also at Peppers Pharmacy 195 East Plumstead Ave and at Utility Works 32 East Baltimore Ave.  If you have any questions you can go to townwideyardsale@lansdowneborough.com or call the borough and talk to Betsy Riffert.  Please remember to wear a mask while you sell or shop and limit the number of people at one location.  This is a great opportunity to get rid of things you don’t need or want after clearing out this past year.  It is also a great time to meet your neighbors and enjoy a fun day and maybe put some extra money in your pocket.

The second event is an electronic recycling and shredding event that will be held on Saturday June 19th 9:00 am to 12:00 pm at Highland Ave parking lot rain or shine.  They will be accepting electronic items but there will be a $30.00 charge for tv’s & monitors.  I want to thank Mayor John Dukes of East Lansdowne and their Council who are again partnering with us.  Also want to thank State Senator Anthony Williams and State Representative Margo Davidson who are helping us with this event.  Just like the yard sale this is a great way to get rid of items you don’t need or want and also to dispose of documents you want to safely discard.  I hope our residents take advantage of this and find it helpful.

An FYI - the Union AA’s annual 4th of July event is still being discussed and there should be a decision made about holding the event soon and we will let everyone know.

A few police items I like to mention. I have had quite a few complaints about the problem of cars speeding on certain streets.  We have put up new warning lawn signs at certain locations to make people aware and we will move them around where needed.  Our new police Chief Kenny Rutherford has also developed a new speeding control program with our officers that is in place.  They have been enforcing this throughout the town.  I feel this will help and we will continue to monitor this issue.  I want to thank Chief Rutherford for the great job he has done since being appointed.  I feel he has jumped right in and has continued to lead our police force in a positive and right direction.  As Mayor, I am very proud of our police department and how they service our community and all our residents.  I also want to thank Fire Chief Russell and our volunteer fire company for the fine job they do protecting our residents.

I know this past year has been tough but I do see things looking better.  One thing that is encouraging is here in Lansdowne we have had 7 new businesses open up and with more to come.  The housing market is very strong here too.  We also have new projects starting like the Gateway Slope, McKinley Ave playground, the Bicycle path and the Lansdowne Theatre development moving forward.  Even though times are still concerning, I am encouraged about the future with all the positive and exciting things happening here in Lansdowne.

Please continue to be safe.

See you around town,

Mayor Tony
