January 17, 2021, Letter from Council President Hover

Dear friends and neighbors,

As we begin 2021, Lansdowne Borough Council and Mayor Campuzano are excited about the renaissance occurring in the Lansdowne Community. With the commencement of several building projects, housing development within the community, and The County has begun delivery of the COVID vaccine throughout the community and will be moving to Phase 1B at the end of the month.

Infrastructure:

Through acquisition of grants and realization of goals from the long term planning of past Councils, Lansdowne Borough Council looks forward to improvements throughout the community.

Beginning this month, Lansdowne Borough Council is implementing the Sanitary Sewer improvements throughout the Borough. The improvements are the result of a thorough inspection of the sanitary sewer system and the acquisition of approximately $990,000 of grant money to improve the infrastructure in Lansdowne. Construction will begin soon on the Gateway Slope Project at the mouth of Scottdale Road and Baltimore Avenue. The pathway will create a safer walkway up Baltimore Avenue and also create signage coming into Lansdowne Avenue. Click HERE to view the Gateway Slope Project.

Public Safety:

Lansdowne Borough Council is happy to report progress in working with the Lansdowne Police Department, and Mayor in working towards reforms within the Police Department. By working with the wonderful professionals in the Police Department and Interim Chief Kenny Rutherford, Lansdowne is moving towards the acquisition of Body Cams and updates to the Police Manual. We appreciate the hard work of our Police Officers and recognize their dedication and service to our community.

The Police Chief Search is continuing and should be concluded at the end January. The Police Chief Search Committee, chaired by Public Safety Chair Sinoe Naji-Taylor, will be interviewing three great candidates from the week of January 18th to January 22nd.

Economic Development:

Lansdowne Borough Council continues to work with community partners and Lansdowne businesses to build the downtown in Lansdowne. Lansdowne Borough Council committed to developing a marketing strategy to advertise the community and the many assets in the Borough.

Similarly, Lansdowne Borough Council is committed to the development of the Lansdowne Landing and Veteran’s Park areas to upgrade the parks as a community gathering space and upgrade the parking lots in Lansdowne Borough.

Lastly, the Economic Development Committee is working to develop signage for the downtown area with Banners for the poles and signage to direct consumers to the businesses in the downtown.

Transition in Government:

On January 6th, 2021, Lansdowne Borough Council and the Mayor committed unanimously to the oaths we took when we swore to uphold the Constitution of Pennsylvania and the United States. We believe in the laws of the Commonwealth and our Nation and work to ensure the residents of Lansdowne—irregardless of party and position—are treated equally in Lansdowne. We reject the use of violence or threat of violence to maintain power. As your neighbors, we represent you and want to do right by you. This is a government of the people, by the people, and for the people.

Despite the hardships of 2020, we believe our community is strong and will continue to grow throughout the year. Please come to Council meetings and Committee meetings to make your voice heard.

To all of my friends and neighbors, I hope to see you around the town.

Sincerely,

Benjamin Hover

President

Lansdowne Borough Council
