New Parks Director
The Board welcomed the borough’s new parks director, Erica Sollberger, RLA, LEED AP. Erica is a Landscape Architect and Certified arborist who had worked earlier with Philadelphia Green.
Remaining in treasury $1,518.
The minutes from the September 8th, 2010 meeting were read and approved.
Baltimore Corridor Project
The trees will arrive in Norristown on November 17th. Sixty-six trees will be planted on November 20th, continuing along the corridor to Church Lane, including replacement of 22 dead trees. Trees will also be planted at the New Rite Aid lawn. The Civil Air Patrol will help again. The Board will provide lunch.
Trees for Residents
32 trees will arrive November 5th. They were $40 each for a total of $1280. So far none of the residents have asked for help with planting. Two trees will go to the 20th Century Club grounds.
Lansdowne Tree Tenders
Tree Tenders will be notified of the Baltimore Corridor planting and of other task.
Parking Lot Trees
There was no confirmation on the planting of Mary Lou’s 2 trees and possibly one from the Fall free tree selection in the municipal parking lot on Lansdowne Avenue. A wire for parking lights is present.
Shade Tree Ordinance
No progress has been done on the ordinance.
Joyce Prentis purchased the stake driver from Home Depot for planting trees.
The Belgian blocks on Lansdowne Avenue by Baltimore Ave. will be replaced by the builders.
Many older trees in the parks are coming down. Hays Park is doing well.
The Board discussed dates in the next few weeks to do a survey of the borough parks, possibly Tuesday, October 19th at 1PM.
Cathy Tersi an arborist who started the Tree Board started Neighborwoods, the month of October. Could this be a project for next year?
Rerouting of the creek and the plantings has been postponed.
Lansdowne Library worked with a landscape designer to put in a rain garden with plantings.
