Regular Meeting Minutes

November 9, 2009

The meeting began at 7:05 p.m. at Borough Hall.  Present were Sherry Spinnraker, Dawn Haussler, Bob Bartmann,  Khalil Shearlds, Jeannette Reinhart, and Jack Kelly.  

1.  Opening

2.  Minutes from October were accepted.

3.  Task List

3.1    Update –  Action Item: Dawn/Mike to update task list in January and distribute.

4.  Borough Council Report

No report at this time.

5.  Recreation and Park Budget Review 

  • 5.1 2010 Budget –  Budget not approved by Council as yet.  Board decided to hold off on any budget decisions until the budget is approved and amount approved is known.
  • 5.1.1 Budget priorities– Board discussed looking at all parks and creating a list of priorities for 2010 budget.
  • 5.2 Reservoir Park – the funds from 2009 have been dedicated to the renovation project and the project is ongoing.
  • 5.3 Basket ball court and tennis court resurfacing – The resurfacing of Hays Park’s basket ball court is complete. 
  • 5.3.1 Competitive pricing for court resurfacing – Sherry noted that the Board should bid out the remaining court resurfacing jobs and schedule resurfacing for early spring.  May be able to get reduced price for all courts grouped together.

6. Correspondence / Community Concerns

No correspondence or community concerns presented.

7. Special Project Reports 2009 – One-time or Reoccurring

No special project reports at this time.

8. Recreation Department Park Management 

  • 8.1 Parks permit policy –  Discussion postponed so Jeri can be available. 
  • 8.2 ADA Compliance – Board to review the Multi-Municipal Recreation, Park, & Open Space Plan and decide which how to start implementing ADA compliance into park design / Master Plans.
  • Action Item:  Dawn to work with Sherry in distribution of copy of the Multi-Municipal plan.  
  • 8.3 Sub-committees – Sherry suggested that sub-committees be organized for each event, including the Spring Egg Hunt, Movie Night, and Park Day.  
  • Action Item:  Everyone should think about which committee they would like to work on or event they would like to head.
  • 8.4 Event assessments – Board to discuss use, and whether to develop/post electronic form on Borough website.
  • Action Item:  Dawn to send Sherry event assessment form.  
  • 8.5 Interboro sketch plan – Tabled for later discussion.

  • 8.8 Sycamore Park – 
  • 8.8.1 Bob reported that he had pulled the roses and planted $600 worth of plant material at the rear of Sycamore Park that he had found on sale.
  • 8.8.2 Jeanette asked whether the pruning of the Sycamore had been performed.  She mentioned that as the Sycamore is Lansdowne’s emblem, we could have keepsakes (keychains, etc.), made of rounds of the pruned limbs and sell them.
  • 8.9 Park Appreciation Days – It was agreed that for the most part, the Park Appreciation Days were not successful.  The most successful day was Marlyn Park’s and that was due to neighborhood interest and participation.  
  • 8.10 Nominations / Elections –  Sherry offered to stay on as Chairman, Dawn offered to stay on as Secretary.  Nominations/elections to take place at December meeting.
