Board of Health
October 13, 2009
The regular monthly meeting of the Lansdowne Board of Health was held on Tuesday, October 13, 2009 at 7:00 pm. in Borough Hall. Present were Al Them, Bertha Phillips, Betsy Riffert and Councilman Schleigh. Absent were Dr. Romney and Mike McCall.
The September meeting minutes were approved as submitted.
Inspector Spangler’s September invoice was not available at the time of this meeting. The board, as is its practice, will preapprove for payment, review it in November and make any changes with his November payment.
Health Officer’s Report:
The Health Officer’s report for September was approved as submitted. Mr. Them reviewed the reports covering the Penn wood High School and Ardmore Avenue Elementary schools, and their inspection violations. Ms. Riffert will draft this letter, which is to be addressed to Joe Otto and reviewed by the Board. .
- Home Based Businesses: Mr. Them presented the board with a draft letter addressed to Borough Council, regarding home-based businesses, the need for a definition, and inspection and fees. The Board is recommending adding the attached to our present ordinance. This information is a combination of Mr. Them’s definition and the PA Department of Agriculture, Bureau of Food Safety & Laboratory Services’ definitions.
After review of proposed ordinance changes, the Board will give to Councilman/Board Liaison Schleigh for presentation to the Council.
- October and November meeting dates: Mr. Them reported that there was no conflict with his schedule and the scheduled meeting dates for the Board of health are good. He thanked the Board for their willingness to work with his schedule.
- Closing of two stores:
a. Ms. Riffert reported that the owners of Lansdowne Restaurant have retired and are looking for a buyer for their restaurant.
b. Ms. Riffert stated that Mission Burrito have closed their doors.
