Meeting Minutes
Board of Health
May 12, 2009

The regular monthly meeting of the Lansdowne Board of Health was held on Tuesday, May 12, 2009 at 7:00 pm. at Borough Hall. Present were Betsy Riffert, Bertha Phillips, Dr. Romney, and Visitor Maryanne Surla, E. Marshall Road. Absent was Mike McCall, Al Them and Council Liaison Schleigh.

The March 2009 minutes were approved as presented. There we no minutes for April, as no meeting is
held during that month.

The Health Officer”s March invoice for $520 was approved for payment. The Officer”s April invoice was not available for inspection at time of the meeting, however the Board pre-approved this payment and any discrepancies will be handed with his May invoice.

Health Officer”s Report:

The Health Officer”s report for March was approved as submitted with no comments

Old Business:

1. PA Department of Health Home-Based Business Inspections: Ms. Riffert discussed her conversation with Cress Barrett, Supervisor with the PA Dept. of Agriculture. He stated that the department is fine with us doing inspection. He also stated that when someone calls his office inquiring about baking at home, he advised the caller that approval must be met from their municipality. He stated that their (PA Dept. of Agriculture) fee is $35. The home must have no pets, well water must be tested, and can”t prepare foods that require refrigeration.

Ms. Riffert went on to advise the Board that the Board will be notified of any future home based businesses when the homeowner calls for “borough approval”. At that time we will tell the homeowner that, they certainly can have the Department inspect their premises for $35, however the Borough ordinance states that they must also be inspected by our Officer and that is Xdollars.

Mr. Them advised me, in an earlier conversation and also due to the fact that he would not be present at this meeting, that it would be appropriate to recommend to Council that they please revise the inspection fee ordinance for 2010″s inspections for homebased businesses to $35.

New Business:

1. Visitor Maryanne Surla, E. Marshall Road, joined our meeting. She had general questions about businesses, none of which were Board of Health related.
2. An update to the 2009 Health License renewal was given.

7:34pm. Next meeting to be held on June 9, 2009 at 7:00 pm

Respectfully submitted,
Betsy Riffert, Secretary
