Board of Health
Meeting Minutes

June 8, 2010

The regular monthly meeting of the Lansdowne Board of Health was held on Tuesday, June 8, 2010 at 7:00 pm. in Borough Hall. Present were Betsy Riffert, Marla Shawaryn McLaughlin, Ph.D. and Dr. Romney. Absent were Mike McCall, Bertha Philips and Council Liaison Schleigh.

Minutes

The May minutes were approved as submitted.

Bills

The Health Officer’s May invoice was not available at the time of the meeting. The Board, as is protocol, approved payment when it arrives, and will review for any discrepancies at their July meeting.

Health Officer’s Report

The Health Officer’s May report was not available at the time of the meeting.

Old Business

  1. Home Based Businesses: The ordinance has not gone in front of the Public Safety as of this meeting. Councilman Schleigh will update us during the July meeting.
  2. Public Health Initiative: Ms. Phillips gave the Homeless Service Resources Guides from the Homeless Services Coalition of Delaware County to the Library Board for their input. As previously mentioned, Marcella Melot, Library Board Treasurer, is a “worker/volunteer” with Ms. Phillips at a local shelter. Ms. Phillips was not at the June meeting, and hopefully can report at the July meeting.
  3. Business Recycling: Ms. Riffert commented during the May meeting about Pantry 1’s stubbornness toward recycling…..and that they will not recycle unless/until a letter from the borough is received. Ms. Riffert will draft a letter to ALL public eating/retail food establishments with a questionnaire. Ms. Riffert will produce at the July meeting.

New Business

  1. BBQing: Provisions called and wanted to BBQ “out back of her store”. She wants to BBQ to alleviate some of the “heat” of cooking at her home, as well as cook while she was working, and wanted to know if there were any rules governing this. Codes did not have an issue and the Board of Health would like to check with our Health Inspector. Ms. Cooke will be emailed question and we will await her response. If Inspector Cooke has no issues, then it would fall on the property owner.

Adjourn

7:20pm. Next meeting July 13, 2010

Respectfully submitted,
Betsy Riffert, Secretary
